The Eugene Invitational
I've seen a lot of dumb wrestling concepts over the years, but the Eugene character has to be the worst. He's a regular guy, who's character is "special," and by special I mean "retarded." He even comes out to the ring wearing his jacket backwards so you know he's retarded.
His story background is that he's the nephew of the general manager's wife. Eugene has been watching wrestling for years and now he gets to be a wrestler. The announcers are always calling attention to the fact that Eugene is able to call upon his "uncanny strength" during matches. And by uncanny strength, they mean "retard strength."
A couple of weeks ago, Eugene beat Kurt Angle (olympic gold medalist turned WWE Superstar) in the Kurt Angle Invitational. By doing so, Eugene gets to keep Angle's gold medal.
Now, in all his warped wisdom, Eugene has started the Eugene Invitational, where, like Kurt Angle, he challenges local wrestlers to try and wrestle with him for three minutes. Of course, Kurt Angle is livid, and will no doubt get his medal back soon.
I really don't understand why the WWE keeps this Eugene character, and the guy that plays him must really be hating life. I wonder how that meeting went down, "...well we think you're a great wrestler, but there's a certain tard-ish look about you. Wait a minute!"
My favorite Eugene moment, however, was during a match where he ruptured his patella. He fell down to the mat hugging his knee, and all of a sudden wasn't retarded.
They really need to get rid of this stupid offensive character. He definitely isn't Benny from L.A. Law.

from one of the many wrestling news sites on the net:
"Critics questioned WWE's choice to use Eugene at the recent RAW house show in Watertown, New York. This is due to the fact that the show was sponsored by the Disabled Persons Action Organization."
