Son of Gigan's FanimeCon 2006 Pictorial

Unlike SOME of our blog members who claim to be fans of Japanese culture, I wasn't wasting Memorial Day weekend 2006 with my family. I spent it in San Jose, California at the biggest Anime convention of the year, FanimeCon. Any self-respecting guy who's been to one knows that there's NO better place to meet HOT CHICKS than an Anime convention. And as you all can guess, none of those lovely young ladies could keep their gloved hands off the Main Monster right here. But I had to fight them off, because I was there to do a job. And my job was to TAKE PICTURES OF ALL THE HOT CHICKS AND UPLOAD THEM TO MY PC AT HOME. And I must say - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, BROTHER. And because my generosity knows no limits, I've decided to share the more appropriate ones with you poor souls. And no, they're not all of young comely lasses. I didn't want any of you foaming with jealousy because of the hold I have over the ladies. Don't beat yourself up over it people; it's not your fault. Just relax and enjoy Son of Gigan's FanimeCon 2006 Pictorial.

We start with a really cute girl in a really tight outfit and a really pink wig. I don't know what Anime character she's supposed to be, but she sold her stuff on a site called So she'll be known as....AnglCon.

These two cuties were roaming the floor selling Japanese bread. I didn't buy any bread from them, but I DID offer to buy something else....Pocky. Oh yeah, you know it.

Here's the Chainsaw Maniac from the most extraordinary video game in the history of human existence: Resident Evil 4.

Not to be outdone by said Maniac, here's the Chainsaw Maid from RE4. It's a good thing Freefall Jones wasn't there. He would've shrieked, wet his pants and hid in the bathroom. He does that whenever he sees a female.

Take a good look at the little girl, because this is exactly the kind of life Son of Gigan's future daughter is going to have. No boys, no malls, no MTV. Just cute, wholesome, Nazi-like anime costumes.

And here's a giant bat for some reason.

This is I-No from the game Guilty Gear XX. Add another "X" to that title and that's a game that I'd like to play. That's right: GuiXlty Gear XX.

Three Schoolgirls Threatening to Cut Your Nuts off with Very Sharp Weapons. Also known as: Tsuji Eriku's Wet Dream.

Okay, some of our blog members were at the show. Here are Langdon Alger and Terrence Maddox trying to corner this french maid. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE FIFI!!!!

A badass chick, a pink teddy bear and a yoyo. GOD DOES EXIST.

Don't make phallus joke...don't make phallus joke...don't make...DAMN!!!!!

The one on the left is obviously trying to cast a spell over me, and the other one's got that come hither stare going. Ladies, you had me at "If we pose for a picture will you stop following us?"

Legends collide: Starfox vs. Samus Aran. But for some reason, it was a GIRL playing Samus! I'm all for women's lib and everything, but come on.

And we close Son of Gigan's FanimeCon 2006 pictorial with -what else - a really cute girl in a really pink wig. It was a great show, well worth the TWO HOURS I had to wait in line to get inside by myself because none of my jerkoff friends wanted to come with me. But I digress. Wait, I don't digress. I hate all of you.

Alex Toth, 1926-2006

Already a great illustrator, Toth shifted gears when he joined Hanna-Barbara animation to do character designs and storyboards. Despite the limitations of television animation at the time, Toth's designs (like Space Ghost) contributed to some of the most recognizable characters in animated history. Seriously, who DOESN'T know the Superfriends or the Legion of Doom?

The day before I left to Tokyo my co-workers & I went to eat at a Chinese restaurant for lunch. At the end of the meal I opened up my fortune cookie & tripped out at my fortune that read:

You will soon be crossing warm waters for a fun vacation.

When I came back, I was depressed for having left Japan & babbled on & on about how much I wanted to move to Tokyo. This happens everytime ne?
My co-workers wanted to have Chinese food again for lunch so we went to the exact same restaurant.
At the end of the meal I opened my fortune cookie & tripped out over my fortune that read:

Travelling to the east will bring you great rewards.

My camera is acting up otherwise I would have included pictures of the fortunes in my post, they willl follow soon.

I guess there should be no question as to what comes next for me ne?

Art School Confidential

The first tiime I read the four-page comic, Art School Confidential, it was reprinted in a catalog from House Industries (House is a very cool font design company). My art director at the time wanted me to check out some of the fonts, but I was more interested Dan Clowes's comic strip instead. I had just seen Ghost World (written by Clowes and directed by Terry Zwigoff --Bad Santa, but I've never seen that) and was reading any Clowes books I could find. Anyway, those four pages of Art School Confidential hilariously catalogued art school stereotypes.

So I was stoked when I heard Clowes and Zwigoff were teaming up again to make Art School Confidential into a movie. I saw it last week and didn't really work for me. It wasn't as biting as it's source material and it wasn't as fun as Ghost World. The first half of the movie had some good and funny moments, but the story all of a sudden takes a dark turn when a murder-mystery subplot rises up and takes over the entire second half of the movie. There's a message about notoriety equaling success--but who cares? We already knew that.

What's good? John Malkovich as the professor who's more concerned about getting his own artwork exposed, and Steve Buscemi as the big-egoed owner of the local hip coffee-shop/art gallery. Also good? The original comic strip. Find it. Read it. Save $10.

Mission: Impossible 3

Maggie Q (Maggie Denise Quigley according to her mini-bio on IMDB) plays superspy Zhen, a member of the IMF (Impossible Mission Force) team responsible for tracking down a mysterious weapon codenamed "Rabbit's Foot".

M:I:3 moves fast. There's a lot of action and fast dialogue, but director/writer JJ Abrams also manages to develop the characters and move the story along while keeping up with all the fights, explosions, and chases. If you've ever watched Abrams' TV creation, Alias, then you'll know that this movie has his fingerprints all over it. From the goofy, stuck-in-the-office, all-knowing tech specialist; to the top secret, standing side-by-side conversations in a public place; this movie is like a high-budget condensed version of a six episode Alias story arc--without cutting anything out.

And it's worth it to see Maggie crash a party at the Vatican (with some other guys) to go after Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

I'm Back.....unfortunately

What's up you effing bum-outs. It's Tsuji back in this piece yo. I had a moderately sized load to blow over the two whole days I was in Tokyo. Shibuya got some of it, Akihabara did too & uh I can't forget Omotesando. BAPE Busy workshop in Harajuku was turned out & so was the Bapesclusive Store in Aoyama/Omotesando, I couldn't get into Bapesclusive when I tried the first day because some new shit was dropping & they were having a lottery for who got to come into the store. The line was long as hell so I went back in the second day to shop with what was left by all the BAPEd out kids the day previous. I was still able to get away with some nice shit though. The rumor that BAPE was dead in Tokyo didn't seem to stick....alot of kids still rock the shit.
I was able to hit up Santastic in Shibuya, & I feel like such a dumbass because it wasn't closed last time I went, I was literally around the corner from Santastic the last trip but I didn't see it. The folks in Santastic were cool as hell, peace out to them cats.

I spent some money in HMV Shibuya:
1. Minmi -Natural
2. nikka Lion
3. Morning Musume -Sexy Boy single/dvd
4. Beat Crusaders -Greatest Hits
5. Likkle Mai
6. Teriyaki Boyz dvd

In Akihabara I picked up some Vinyl figures for langdon & a cool little statuette of Tenma Chan from School Rumble that was on sale. I also picked up Under 17's best of volume 1 & 2.

I saw a pervert sneaking pictures of girls butts in Omotesando. I went to a maid cafe, I forgot the name of it but it was in the same building as Don Quixote in Akihabara. The line was too long. My feet hurt so I bounced. Hit up quite a few Izakayas & bars. Lots of Good food & drink.
Yumi Chan's apartment is down the street from Tokyo Dome & I wandered over there on gameday, Tokyo Giants fans were representing hardcore! Also there were quite a few kids kicking it near the arcade all cosplayed out. Wierd but cool. Got some Sashimi at the fish market...oishii sou desu! I wouldn't have gone if it wasn't for David, so thanks for waking me up. I got some omurice at Denny's...hehe no shit. Saw alot of beautiful women too, unfortunately whore mongering wasn't in the budget this trip. Poor me. I want to stay two to three weeks next trip, eff the shopping man, just explore & job hunt. That's all I can remember, I'm tired.

Peace out to Yumiko, Michiyo, Mizuho & Kumi for hanging out with your boy in Tokyo... the love will return when y'all come out to the Bay. Ja
