Diggin' In The Crates "Def Jam: The Maroon Period" Edition
Beastie Boys Rock Hard 12"
(Def Jam DJ002)
The second-ever Def Jam 12" (LL Cool J's "I Need A Beat" was the first), and the first one the Beasties did as a full-time rap band. At this time, Def Jam, was being run out of Rick Rubin's NYU dorm room, and Rubin was doing double duty as both producer and the Beasties' live DJ (under the pseudonym "Double R"). Of course, it's Ad-Rock, MCA and Mike D on lead vocals, and Rubin playing most of the instruments as well as playing the role of the indignant producer on "Party's Getting Rough".
