OY! MTV Raps...

haven't had much time to do any write ups for the blog this week...so here's a quick "copy and paste" story I came across that I found to be a bit on the ridiculous side of things...

-They have baggy clothing, backward baseball caps, the "bling bling" and racy lyrics. And these days, rappers sometimes wear yarmulkes too.

Hip-hop music, which grew out of black inner cities, isn't typically associated with Jews, but as the genre has grown more popular, some Jewish artists have embraced it as their own, while transcending theological and ethnic differences.

New York-based Hip Hop Hoodios, whose name is a play on the Spanish word for Jews, is a Latino-Jewish group that has recorded in English, Spanish and Hebrew. Their lyrics include such sardonic lines as: "My nose is large, and you know I'm in charge."

A popular 26-year-old Hasidic singer, Matisyahu, raps in a brimmed hat and dark suit over reggae beats. "Torah food for my brain let it rain till I drown, Thunder! Let the blessings come down," he says in "King Without a Crown."

Another example: Chutzpah, comprised of two suburban New York natives and a Los Angeles actor, whose first single from a self-titled CD and accompanying DVD is "Chanukah's Da Bomb."

Chutzpah treads the line between seriousness and satire. Parody acts in Jewish hip-hop have been common. Among them, 50 Shekel was a takeoff on 50 Cent. M.O.T. was managed by Meshugge Knight, a takeoff on Suge Knight. And 2 Live Jews featured Dr. Dreidle and Ice Berg.

In the video for "Chanukah's Da Bomb," Chutzpah cruises town in a Volvo with a roof-mounted menorah and raps that Chanukah, "whichever way you spell it," is better than Christmas because it lasts seven days longer.

"Humor (is) one of the only things the Jews had when they were being oppressed for century after century," Hyams said.-

Random Questions

Driving on the left lane of the street after work, I passed up a guy walking on the right lane. With his left arm he guided his bicycle & on his other side he guided a shopping cart filled with a nomad's belongings: sleeping bag/bag o' recyclables /etc. I probably wouldn't have given him a 2nd glance if he wasn't occupying the whole right lane of the street, forcing cars to go around him. Passing a speed-tracking cop a few blocks later, I pondered this question: Would any cop do something about this street-trekking pedestrian? I'm not talking about a speeding ticket. Not that I'm screaming for vigilante justice....I'm just curious if he was breaking some obscure law or just being inconsiderate.

Train of Thought Derailed: The other day I heard Vanessa Minillo talking to The Lohan. The only thing better than one raspy voiced hot chick is 2 of 'em talking to each other.

I was talking with my buddy at work about this admin chick who has a nice ass. The conversation made its way to us talking about how there aren't too many good-looking chicks in our line of work. I almost said who I thought were the 2 cutest chicks in the County when I stopped that thought before it hit my tongue. The reason is that my buddy is now married to one of those chicks. My question: Is there a proper etiquette to complimenting your buddy & saying that his chick is hot? It would seem weird enough if they weren't even married. I took the high road and didn't mention it. I don't think anybody can pull it off unless they're that close & comfortable enough to talk that candidly, and I don't think I ever will be that open with any of my friends....even if my friend in this particular case wasn't a 6'3 280+lbs former football player.

450-pound Jellyfish

"They are 6ft wide and weigh 450lb (200kg), with countless poisonous tentacles, they have drifted across the void to terrorise the people of Japan. Vast armadas of the slimy horrors have cut off the country’s food supply. As soon as one is killed more appear to take its place."

No way!

These things have been wrecking the fish business in the Sea of Japan. Devastating the fish population, ripping nets, and poisoning the water --effectively cutting off a large part of Japan's food supply. Here's more from the report:

"The problem has become so serious that fishery officials from Japan, China and South Korea are to meet this month for a “jellyfish summit” to discuss strategies for dealing with the invasion. Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party has formed a jellyfish countermeasures committee and fishermen are at work on technology to keep the marauders out of their nets."

Jellyfish summit? Jellyfish Countermeasures Committee? This sh*t's bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

UPDATE! ...not really an update, but I did want to say that I just noticed that the jellyfish looks like a giant detached testicle floating in the water.

Seven Samurai movie poster

$15.95 on eBay (including shipping). 27" x 40" and it's on my wall, bitches.

Admittedly, I'd never seen the movie. But when I was 11 years old, The Magnificent Seven made me cry when Charles Bronson bit the dust. And I'm currently checking out the "re-interpreted as anime" Samurai 7. So I get the gist. Seven ronin protect a village from an army of bandits in 16th century Japan.

But check out that poster. Those guys are cool. I mean, why are they standing there so casually? One guy doesn't even care to show his face in the poster, you only see his sword. But who's going to tell a bunch of samurai, "...uh hey guys, I can only see six of you." ?

Terror of the Drop Bear

In my endless adventures around suburban Northern California, I've encountered a great number of exotic, hideous beasts. Many of them have been extremely frightening and horribly dangerous, but NONE of them filled me with more dread than the one I've been researching for the last 45 days.

I won't go into the complex details, but I was studying an Australian bicycle race at work when I stumbled onto some information about a mysterious creature that stalks the wooded areas of the Australian bush, searching for victims on which to feed. And I'm sad to report that at least one of these creatures has made its way to American soil.

Now I know what you're thinking: how can anything from Australia be dangerous? This is the same country/continent that brought us some of our most beloved institutions, like Yahoo Serious and Jacko. But unlike those two cherished icons, these creatures aren't hilariously wacky or heroically masculine. They are cold-blooded and vicious, with no remorse and no second thoughts about brutally dismembering whomever's unfortunate enough to cross their paths. Please send your children out of the room, and for those who are squeamish, I apologize in advance for what I'm about to show you. But it must be seen. Lay your virgin eyes upon...the Drop Bear.

The Drop Bear, or Dropbear, is a distant relative of the Australian koala bear (koalamus bearus), and shares many of its physical features. But instead of eucalyptus leaves, the Drop Bear chews on HUMAN FLESH. And instead of a gum tree, it prefers to sink its claws into YOUR TORSO. Standing roughly four feet tall, with broad shoulders and sporting razor-sharp teeth and talons, the Drop Bear waits for its prey in the branches high above before leaping down on it, tearing and clawing through the victim's skin and clothes in a ravenous race to reach the nourishing entrails. Food is not the Drop Bear's primary concern, however. Like most Americans, it eats when it isn't even hungry. First hand accounts are rare since no scientist who ever attempted to study Drop Bears has ever returned alive, but behavioral studies gleaned from recovered audio tapes and rock carvings give every indication that Drop Bears actually enjoy the sound of desperate human screams. Running will not save you, as the Drop Bear can reach ground speeds of up to 35mph. A car or truck is no safe haven either; Drop Bears have been known to rip car doors off and smash through windshields.

Even though I'm fully aware that everything written on the Internet is true, I still had to do some hands-on research of this chilling subject. To protect the people. My people. In order to get a glimpse of a Drop Bear, or at least gain a greater understanding of its natural habitat, I combed every Outback Steakhouse within a 30-mile radius of my home. At the third one I visited I encountered Ozzie Matty, a wise Tasmanian mystic moonlighting as a Bloomin' Onion cook. He gave me the ironclad, foolproof method to discerning if there is a Drop Bear is in the vicinity. He instructed me (I beg you to pay close attention, for your own safety) to travel to the nearest wooded area and lay down on my back. Then, I had to purse my lips and spit straight up into the air. If someone spit back on me, it was a Drop Bear.

Now I'm not an idiot; I wasn't just going to take this man's word because he was old and spoke with a slightly faltering Australian accent. I had to test his theory for myself, no matter how dangerous. So early on a Saturday morning, I quietly crept into the lonely woods just beyond the Petco near my house and laid down. Fighting off a brutal case of cottonmouth, I generated as much spit as I could and launched it as far up as possible. Before I could breathe a sigh of relief, a gob of spit exploded directly in the middle of my forehead. Again, I'm no idiot, so I wasn't going to jump to a quick conclusion. I reasoned that it must've been the discharge of another animal, perhaps a squirrel. A squirrel wouldn't spit on me twice, so I tried it again. And again. And again. Each time my secretion was returned. It was undeniable: THERE IS A DROP BEAR IN MY CITY.

Covered in Drop Bear saliva yet heroically maintaining my composure, I quickly wiped my face with some green leaves I found on the ground and ran off as furiously as I could. How did I escape the blinding speed of the Drop Bear? It was partly due to my own tremendous swiftness (in high school I was Master of the 12-Minute Mile). But through more painstaking introspection, I've deduced that the Drop Bear actually allowed me to gain a head start. My elevated adrenaline level must've given off an intoxicating pheromone, raising the sweetness of my blood. The Drop Bear sensed this, and waited for my hemoglobin to reach an orgasmic level of deliciousness before devouring me. In somewhat less scientific terms: Drop Bears FEAST ON FEAR and DINE ON DANGER.

Fortunately, the Drop Bear's saliva wasn't acidic. It did however, leave me with a terribly itchy rash on my face. Now it's clear; not only can Drop Bears shred your intestines like iceberg lettuce and pull your legs clean off, but they also spit toxic venom.

So with calamine on my face and worry in my heart, I implore you: BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR DROP BEARS. Don't go near any trees or anything that can be mistaken for a tree. I care deeply about all of you except Freefall Jones, and I realize that none of you are as quick or crafty as me. If you're targeted by a Drop Bear, you won't be able to flee successfully as I did. The best prevention against getting mauled is avoidance. In this case, knowing is ALL the battle. For extra guidance, here's an artist's rendition of a Drop Bear:

Of course, it may seem unnecessary to post a drawing of a Drop Bear when I already posted a photo of one earlier. But some people respond better to illustrations.

Unfortunately, we may be forced to stay indoors completely if we wish to keep our innards intact, as lately I've been uncovering reports of burrowing Drop Bears and aquatic Drop Bears, which attack from underground tunnels and watery environments, respectively. When I think about it, I'm not sure why they're called Drop Bears, when they don't actually drop, but rather dig and swim. But that's beside the point. We're in serious danger people; I only hope you can follow my lead before more Drop Bears appear and gorge themselves on you and everyone you care about. Follow me people. Follow me.

Lawsuit Over Ape's 'Nipple Fetish' Settled
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Two women who had taken care of Koko, a gorilla who communicates with humans by sign language, have settled a lawsuit charging the president of its sanctuary urged them to show their breasts to the ape, a lawyer said on Thursday.
Nancy Alperin and Kendra Keller had sued the Woodside, California-based Gorilla Foundation, claiming its president had pressed them to bare their breasts for Koko to help bond with the gorilla.
The two said foundation President Francine Patterson would interpret hand movements by Koko as a demand to see human nipples. They declined and were later fired in an act of retaliation for not indulging what the lawsuit called Koko's "nipple fetish."
The lawyer for the foundation said the two were fired for different reasons and that a county court earlier this year dismissed their sexual harassment and wrongful termination charges.
Attorney Todd Roberts said the foundation agreed to settle the lawsuit to get on with its work. Terms of the settlement were confidential, he added.
"We denied all of the allegations in the complaint and continue to deny the allegations," Roberts said.
Stephen Sommers, a lawyer for the two women, declined to comment on the lawsuit and its settlement.

Forgotten Repeat

Today I busted out the ol' Anchorman soundtrack. It wasn't until the drive home that I heard Track 14: Afternoon Delight by Ron Burgundy & The Channel 4 News Team. I forgot how badass that song is. I ended up playing it from Pittsburg through my Hercules stopover all the way home to the 'meda. It was nice to see I didn't forgot the lyrics....would anyone? I know some of ya'll share my appreciation for "The Greatest Composition In Human History"....and yes if you disagree...I will fight you. That's no lie.

The Golden State Warriors sit alone atop the Pacific Division. You know luck & momentum are on their side when Adonal Foyle has more than one double-double within a week. I'm just waiting for the bandwagon fans to toss their Bryant/Bibby/Nash jerseys to shake the dust off their old Webber Warrior jersey (Thank God for the throwback craze, eh?)....which they bought when it was ok to like them. When TNT only had one of their games on their yearly schedule. That's the shitty thing about having a mid-market team in a decent sized sports market: The more people there are, the more likely the chance you'll be surounded by fans who like the latest good team as opposed to their local hustling teams, like the A's & Warriors (where are the Packers & Cowboys fans now?).

Ok enough with that...it's been awhile since I vented about anything here. The Warriors resurgence allows for just as much bragging as it does front-runner bashing.

J-Music Clip of the Week...

yeah, had to make a slight title change simply because it just won't be Jpop music that will be covered here, hopefully I'll be able to touch on all genre's of J-Music..so here's this weeks quick entry:

Artist: Asian Kung Fu Generation
Song:
"Siren" off the album SOLFA

(click the pic to buy album)

Siren preview

Siren DL

here's a brief blurb on the band from there official website:

"Weezer-ish sound a la japonaise. NUMBER GIRL-ish Vibration. Emotional Sense and Literary RockThe hope and destructive impulse lie among the desperation possesses both positivity and negativity. Gasping for something to grasp, but the hand reaches to nothing. Their music is the pure form of the combination of such painfully unbearable emotion and the explosive cry as one. Everyone's eyes are set on these guys, as they perform energetically songs that guarantee your 100% excitement! "

um...not really sure what that meant but what I do know is that SOLFA is one of those rare albums where you don't have to skip over the "bad" songs cuz quite frankly, there isn't any.

Reality Bites...

Now in my younger days, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde was in constant rotation in my walkman. There was just something about the everyday rhymes over quirky (yet funky) beats that really appealled to me. Or maybe it was because Othafish and Passing Me By were my theme songs (cuz only nerd girls would jock me!). Now Pharcyde is down to half its membership (they should change their damn name to Imani & Bootie Brown of The Pharcyde) while Slim Kid Tre and Fatlip have ventured off into solo projects.

So, what happened to the "5th" member? Where the hell has producer J-Sw!ft been? Last I heard, he was suing some R&B dude who bit off the production from Passing Me By. Well, it turns out that J-Sw!ft is making a comback and is currently working on a new album. He was involved in a reality tv series about his life, but things went horribly wrong.

Can't even imagine what the Wascals or Anotha Level is up to...

Pyramid Alehouse, Brewery, and Restaurant

Our company Christmas Party is going to be at the Pyramid Brewery this year. I'm sorry, let me correct that statement - our Holiday Party is going to be at Pyramid this year.

The flyer we got at work announcing the party made sure to note it was a "Holiday" party, lest anyone be offended by "Christmas." I wonder how many of you out there are having these "holiday" parties as opposed to "Christmas."

Anyway, the secretary in charge of organizing the party had never eaten at Pyramid before, so a group of us went there for lunch today. I showed up early with Countess Daffodil to avoid the who-should-carpool-together debacle that always happens whenever five or more people in my office get together for a lunch excursion. The two of us ended up sitting on a bench debating whether or not we should buy one of the cases of Apricot Ale that were on sale for $10.99.

The rest of our office attendees finally arrived and we got seated in one of the booths. It was very spacious - a big wide table and the seat/bench had a very high-back, to insure your privacy as you chow down on beer-battered fish and chips (which I ordered).

Around the table we had a cobb salad, chicken chili, turkey burger and cheese soup, fish tacos, tri-tip with cheesy potatoes, my fish and chips, and a flatbread appetizer that came late because the waiter forgot to put in the order. That waiter was lame -- very cold personality, I don't think he liked us at all. When he forgot the flatbread, he asked us if we still wanted it. Umm, yeah bitches, we still want it.

Overall, the food was enjoyable - but I wonder how much of that enjoyment came from the pint of Apricot Ale I had before the food came. By the way I opted to not buy a case of beer, and neither did the Countess. Not that we didn't like the beer, but because we both realized that all that beer would go to waste sitting in our refrigerators next to the other unfinished six-packs of hip, trendy microbrews.

Absolute Crisis On Infinite Earths

Worlds lived. Worlds died. And my wallet will never be the same. The Absolute Edition of Crisis On Infinite Earths is another oversized hardcover from DC, this time collecting the groundbreaking "event" mini-series that redefined the DC universe. Man, this thing is huge (it better be for $100). It's even bigger than the Absolute Batman: Hush book I picked up a couple of months back.

The slipcase features artwork repurposed from a George Perez/Alex Ross poster from a few years back, but the covers to the two volumes of Crisis feature new artwork from Perez (who drew the series--and seeing his art blown up and oversized is awesome). The first book is the collected series, and the second book acts as an appendix with notes and stuff from the creators.

So what was so special about this Crisis? This was the first time a comic book publisher attempted to tie together their ENTIRE character universe and change the direction of all their books. This wasn't Secret Wars where Marvel heroes disappeared for a while but came back with changes that would be reversed after a few months. The Crisis was the first and probably best epic adventure featuring tons of heroes and villians --and if the deaths of Supergirl and the Flash don't move you, you're a big fat jerk. Sadly, Batman was pretty useless here. This was a huge galactic threat, so he was pretty much relegated to crowd control. That and taunting Lex Luthor.

2nd Job Busted/XXX-mas?

It had been awhile, & since it was 2 for 1 Wednesday I made a visit to good ol' Video Maniacs. I made my inevitable trip behind the curtain. Nathing new on the New Release wall. Ever since I rented G-Unit's Groupie Love & Reign of Tera awhile back, they've been rented out everytime I've looked afterwards. I was browsing through the older Asian compilations & their many box photos when a small photo caught my eye. The Asian girl with the male body part in her mouth looked alot like a certain CH alumni. Before my CHers get too excited, it's not one of our favorites or familiars. It is one of those girls who was always on the site as well as the Yahoo Group. I believe she had her own photo folder (a giveaway of her identity if we're talking about the same Yahoo group). My curiosity was enough that I went ahead & rented it just to see if that was her. After reviewing the video evidence, I'm pretty sure it was. Next time any CHers are in the area, we'll look at a pic of her online, then drive down to the store & look at the back of the dvd case.

I passed by the sale wall, where that damn beef stomping dvd was right in the middle of the eye-level shelf. Looking at porn for sale made me ask myself a question which I'll extend to anyone reading: Is porn still a relevant gift? I don't think I've given out porn gifts since the homey gave Thongchai & I a bag of signed dvds to give out/keep as we see fit. As of now I don't assume anyone has porn as a high priority on the wishlist, but I'm sure the right dvd/starlet would bring legitimate holiday cheer.

"Rockin' Around..the Christmas Tree...Have a Happy Holiday..."

Every family has there own little Christmas day tradition, whether it be having a tree trimming party or a gift wrapping party or attending midnight mass, its something that they all can look forward to each and every year. My family is no different, but our "tradition" isn't necessarily a traditional way of enjoying the holidays, atleast I don't think they are.

First, we(immediate family, relatives,ect.ect.) don't really do anything Christmas day but rather on Christmas Eve. That's when we all gather at my aunt and uncle's house, eat like there's no tomorrow and watch this little ditty of a movie over and over and over again:

"Deliciously warped and winsome boyhood memories of Christmas are told by a typical American man revisiting his native Indiana during the 1940s. Among other childish pursuits, his overriding obsession to finally own a genuine Red Ryder BB gun consumes his feverish imagination. Based on Jean Shepherd's novel, "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash." widescreen for the first time, this release also includes amazing extras that truly make this the definitive version of a modern-day classic"

..now, its not like we pop it in the dvd player and have the sumbatch on repeat..there's no need too..TBS/TNT has it on for 24hours straight and there's really nothing else worth watching on the tube(unless its those old Rakin and Bass Rudolph,Santa, Frosty clamation classics)..plus who doesn't love hearing Ralphy say "yeah..statue.." as he carresses the prestigious award that his dad receives...

A Christmas Story Movie Official Table Leg Lamp

so as midnight draws near...everyone starts gathering around the beautiful plastic Christmas tree, my two not so little anymore cousins get in position, as they have done since they were tiny rugrats, to hand out all the gifts that expand out WAY beyond under the tree...BUT..before anyone gets there grubby little hands on the presents..a little music in the background is needed to set the festive mood...

ELVIS' CHRISTMAS ALBUM

I really don't recall when or how Elvis became part of our Xmas tradition, but I imagine the first time it was ever played while we opened gifts, it was either on 8track or cassette tape....

All I want for XXX-Mas...-Guillermo Paco Castro Jimenez DelaSantos Reyes Jr. Edition

Looks like she's taking a number 3 in this one (a number 1 + a number 2 = a number 3)

Hola! As suggested by Mr. Alger, I must post something on my x-mas list, so here it goes... (it's my first time, please be gentle... are you sure I won't get pregnant the first time?). All I want for x-mas is to have Bea write a song aboot me. And not one of her songs where she's dissing dudes who are on her jock. The song has to be one of her usual "I know this guy is trouble, and he's gonna fuck me over, and after we fuck, I'ma regret it, but damn, he's grrrrreat in bed! Fuck ME!" Of course, said song will have to be based on actual events.
